How to Scan LEGO Blind Bags
Find the code on the box
Flip the blind box over. On the bottom you’ll find a small Data Matrix code (looks like a tiny square QR code) printed near the barcode.
Scan or type the code
Point your phone camera at the Data Matrix code. Our scanner reads it instantly. If your camera can’t focus on it, just type the numbers into the manual entry field.
See what’s inside
The first number in the code is the Element ID. It maps directly to a specific minifigure. You’ll see the figure name, series, and which factory region the box is from.

What Is the Code on LEGO Blind Bags?
Every LEGO Collectible Minifigure (CMF) blind bag or blind box has a small Data Matrix code printed on the bottom. This code is different from the UPC barcode and contains production data specific to that individual bag.
When decoded, the Data Matrix produces a space-separated string like 6471968 146R3 13896418 011398. The first 7-digit number is the Element ID, which maps 1:1 to a specific minifigure within the series.
The second token tells you the production factory. An R means the bag was produced in Mexico (North America), while an S means it was produced in the Czech Republic (Europe). The same figure has different Element IDs depending on the factory.
This is the same method resellers and collectors have used for years to identify what's inside sealed CMF bags without opening them. Our scanner just makes it faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the blind bag scanner work?
Every LEGO CMF blind box has a Data Matrix code printed on the bottom. This code contains an Element ID that maps directly to a specific minifigure. Our scanner reads that code and instantly tells you which figure is inside.
What series are supported?
We currently support Series 25, Series 26 Space, Dungeons & Dragons, Series 27, F1 Race Cars, Spider-Verse, and Series 28 Animals. We add new series as soon as codes are confirmed by the community.
Does it work with both NA and EU boxes?
Yes. LEGO produces CMF bags in two factories: Mexico (NA/R codes) and Czech Republic (EU/S codes). Each factory uses different Element IDs for the same figure. Our database includes both NA and EU codes.
What if my phone camera can’t focus on the code?
The Data Matrix codes on CMF boxes are very small. If your camera struggles to focus, use the manual entry field. Type or paste the code printed below the Data Matrix and we’ll look it up for you.
Is this really free?
Yes, 100% free with no account required. Scan as many blind boxes as you want. If you want to track your collection or manage inventory for resale, you can create a free brick’em account.
Where does the code data come from?
Our database is built from confirmed scans by the LEGO community. Element IDs are verified against actual box contents to ensure accuracy. If you find a code we don’t recognize, it may be from a new production batch.
